How to Record a Keynote Presentation With Webcam & Audio
Keynote on Mac can record a slideshow with voiceover, but it does not easily combine your webcam face and your slides into one video that works on any device. The easiest way to record a Keynote presentation with audio and video is to export the deck to PDF and record it in your browser.
1. Export Keynote as a PDF
In Keynote, choose File → Export To → PDF. Leave image quality set to "Good" or "Better" so text stays crisp. Each slide becomes one PDF page, and animations or Magic Move transitions will be flattened. If an animation matters, duplicate the slide in Keynote so each stage becomes its own page.
2. Load the PDF into SlideStage
Open SlideStage and drop the PDF onto the upload area. The slides are rendered locally in your browser — nothing leaves your device. This works on Mac, Windows, Chromebook, or Linux, so the same file you created in Keynote can be recorded anywhere.
3. Turn on camera and microphone
Allow camera and microphone access when prompted. Drag the webcam bubble to a corner that keeps your face visible without hiding important slide content. For the best eye contact, place it near the top of the screen so you are looking toward the camera while reading the slide.
4. Add an optional script (not recorded)
Paste your notes into the teleprompter. It appears on screen for you but is not captured in the final video, so you can stay on-script without the audience noticing. Drag and resize it to fit your layout.
5. Record while advancing through slides
Press start, then move through the deck with the arrow keys or the floating controls. Only the slide, your voice and your webcam are recorded. Pause and resume anytime if you want to redo a section.
6. Download your finished video
Stop the recording and save the file. The download is a WebM video that plays in any modern browser and can be converted to MP4 in seconds with ffmpeg, VLC or HandBrake — ready to share as a course, pitch, or async update.
Frequently asked questions
Can Keynote record my webcam? Keynote's built-in slideshow recording captures audio and slide timing, but not a picture-in-picture webcam feed. To get both your face and your slides in one video, export to PDF and use SlideStage.
